natasha lifted her head in time to see her captors heft her friends over their shoulders and trudge off up the beach. "what do you want with us?" she'd demanded, only to be told "you? we're here for your friends. you are merely regrettable collateral. we apologise for any inconvenience."
'any' inconvenience? seriously? that made her angry enough, but "collateral" stung more: why would anyone want to kidnap her friends - she'd always seen them as the sidekicks, not her! leaving her behind was an insult.
and the sandcastle was just plain rude.
sometimes it's a shock to discover the story isn't about you...
